Who am I?

My name is Campbell Abbot. I have been a self employed graphic designer since January 2004. I work from home in Arch Hill, central Auckland, having recently moved in from Titirangi, which was great, but I'm really looking forward to all that central Auckland has to offer.

Prior to going out on my own, I worked for a couple of small design firms, but after a couple of years I realised I could be doing this for myself. Soon I had my first personal clients,  but this work soon grew to a point where I couldn’t service them properly and work full time, so after much discussion with my employer I took the plunge and went full time self employed. I still work with those original clients today; Accent Dental Solutions and Planet Ayurveda Wellness & Spa.

I gained my Diploma of Graphic Design at what is now Natcoll in 2000 after completing a Diploma of Tourism at AUT. I spent most of my 20’s
 
 

travelling overseas after a stint as a fencer in Southern Hawkes Bay
where I grew up. I also spent about 20 months in the Army after
leaving school. These experiences taught me self discipline and what it
is to truly work hard (among other things) but also something which I
believe is just as important as being good at what you do - the ability to
relate to and get on with a wide variety of people; It’s irrelevant how
good you are if you can’t get along with the client.

want someone who will listen and be patient, who can relate to you and
who understands what you want to achieve, someone who will give
practical and knowledgeable input and advice to get the best result for
your spend and who is more interested in the outcome than the profit,

Likes:  My wife, my house, my garden, my doggies, decent wine, cold beer, single malt whisky, music that isn't 'pop', rap or country & western, stormy West Coast beaches, rainy Sundays, Whale Bay/Matapouri, rugby but not the Super 14, Cricket but not 20/20, Golf, The History Channel, Rialto movies, photography, our Dyson vacuum cleaner, things that are well made, work properly and last a long time, kind/generous/honest/humorous people who are slightly odd...

Dislikes: Super 14 rugby, 20/20 Cricket, taggers, boy racers, cheap badly made products, the constant  updates and improvements to technology items/home appliances, ads on sky,  ignorant/obnoxious/staunch/humourless people, McDonalds and the people who dump its packaging on my street, brussell sprouts, musicals...
